Rethinking the Foundations of the Theory of Divine Proximity: A Response to a Critique

Abstract:
The ethical theory of the “Theory of Divine Proximity” (Qurb-gira’i), articulated by Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, stands as one of the most prominent realist theories in contemporary Islamic philosophy of ethics and has been widely discussed and critiqued. The present article is a response to the paper “A Critique of a Critique” (by Mesbah, Shahriari, and Soroush), which was written in defense of this theory and in reaction to the author’s previous critiques.
This research argues that although the aforementioned paper has contributed to clarifying the theory, the core of the previously raised objections in the logical, epistemological, and ontological dimensions remains unresolved. In the logical dimension, the unity of “act” and “title” in moral evaluation is emphasized. In the epistemological dimension, it is asserted that fundamental ethical propositions are synthetic, not analytic, in nature. In the ontological dimension, the exclusivity of “self-love” (hubb al-dhat) as the sole basis for values is challenged, arguing that “divine love” (hubb al-ilahi) can serve as a primary and authentic motivation, and the “Perfect Human” (al-insan al-kamil) is not merely an intermediary but an objective model and an attainable goal. Finally, this article concludes that adopting these proposed modifications does not weaken the Theory of Divine Proximity; rather, by strengthening its monotheistic and practical aspects, it contributes to its richness and robustness.

Title :بازاندیشی در مبانی نظریه قربگرایی: پاسخی به یک نقد
Abstract:
نظریۀ اخلاقی «قربگرایی» که توسط آیتالله مصباح یزدی تبیین و ارائه شده، یکی از منسجمترین و تأثیرگذارترین دیدگاههای واقعگرایانه در فلسفۀ اخلاق اسلامی معاصر بهشمار میرود. این نظریه به دلیل عمق فلسفی و تلاش برای پاسخگویی به چالشهای جدید، مورد استقبال قرار گرفته و در عین حال نقد و بررسیهای فراوانی برای آن مطرح شده است. مقالۀ حاضر در ادامه گفتوگوهای علمی مطرحشده در این باب، به بررسی مقالۀ «نقدی بر یک نقد؛ بازخوانی نظریة قرب الهی آیتالله مصباح یزدی» (شهریاری و دیگران، 1403) میپردازد که در دفاع از نظریۀ قربگرایی و در پاسخ به نقدهای پیشین نگارنده نگاشته شده است. در این نوشتار استدلال خواهیم کرد که اگرچه مقاله فوق با شرح و بسط دقیق برخی ابعاد، به شفافسازی اصل نظریة آیتالله مصباح یزدی کمک شایانی نموده، اما هستۀ اصلی اشکالات مطرحشده توسط نگارنده، در سه بعد منطقی، معرفتشناختی و هستیشناختی همچنان به قوت خود باقی مانده است. در بعد منطقی، بر وحدت «فعل» و «عنوان» و عدم امکان تفکیک کامل آنها در مقام ارزشگذاری تأکید خواهیم کرد. در بعد معرفتشناختی خواهیم گفت که گزارههای بنیادین اخلاقی، تحلیلی نبوده، ترکیبی و نیازمند تبیین معرفتی مستقل هستند. در بعد هستیشناختی نیز، ضمن به چالش کشیدن «حب ذات»، بهعنوان تنها منشأ تبیین واقعیت ارزشهای اخلاقی، استدلال خواهیم کرد که «حب الهی» میتواند بهمثابه یک انگیزه اصیل و اولیه عمل کند و «انسان کامل» نهتنها «راه» و «واسطه»، بلکه «الگوی عینی» و «هدف قابل درک» برای کمال انسانی است. این مقاله نتیجه میگیرد که پذیرش این اصلاحات، نهتنها نظریه قربگرایی را تضعیف نمیکند، بلکه با تقویت نگاه توحیدی و افزایش کارآمدی عملی، به غنا و استحکام آن میافزاید.
