Abstract:
Is defending philosophy tantamount to defending all philosophical thoughts and works? Is philosophy all true, or is philosophy the whole truth? Should philosophy be defended, or abandoned unconditionally? Raising these questions, the author argues that neither is philosophy all true, nor is the truth bound to be merely philosophical. Unconditional defence of philosophy as well as denying it are both implausible. What is tenable is a moderate and reasonable approach to philosophy. What we should escape from are wishful thinking, exclusionism, lapses, and one-sidedness, whether in philosophy or otherwise.
